Gianna Panagopoulou

Gianna Panagopoulou graduated from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki Law School and she continued with her post-graduate studies in Penal and Criminal Procedural Law and Criminology (LL.M.). She further received a scholarship from the Institution of State Scholarships in order to elaborate her doctoral thesis, focusing on the criminal protection of the environment and the legal issues that occur while implementing the relevant legislation. Her research was published and she obtained her Ph.D. in 1992.

She taught European Law, with focus on European legislation about the protection of the environment, at the Department of Biology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) and at the Technological Educational Institute (TEI) of Thessaloniki.

She has been practicing Law for more than 27 years; she is a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Greece and of the Council of State and senior partner at PANAGOPOULOU-BEKA and Partners Law Firm.

Since 2002, she has been elected as a member of the Board of the Bar Association of Thessaloniki, serving in key positions, among which twice serving as the Vice-President of the Bar.

She is a member of the Scientific Working Group of the Municipality of Thessaloniki for the socially vulnerable groups of our city, President of the Mediation Committee of the Bar Association of Thessaloniki and Member of the Board of the Mediation Training Institute of Thessaloniki.

She has published more than 20 Articles and Studies in prestigious legal journals, such as Armenopoulos, Iperaspisi, Poiniki Dikaiosuni, Aisimnitis, Enopion etc. She has also participated numerous times as a panelist in conferences, seminars and lectures of several major Greek and foreign institutions [such as: the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Court of Audit, the University of Peireus, the Greek Society of Penal and Criminal Law, the Region of Central Macedonia, events of many Municipalities, the Democritus University of Thrace, the American Center, the Technical Chamber, the Institute of Continuing Education, the International Hellenic University, the Bar Association of Thessaloniki, the American College of Thessaloniki (Anatolia), the Money Show, the League for Women Rights etc.

She speaks English and French.

She has two children, Danai and Foivos.
